The American Citizen Services (ACS) section of the Consular Section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in the United Kingdom. American Citizens Services consists of Special Consular Services, the Passport & Citizenship Unit and the Federal Benefits Unit. Each Unit has different opening hours.

Important Security Announcement
Please do not bring mobile phones or any electronic devices, such as Blackberries, iPods, or PDAs as they are not allowed within the Embassy. We also strongly advise that you do not bring large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases or packages to the interview as there are no storage facilities on Embassy grounds. Click on the following PDF file for a list of Left Luggage storage facilities.

Only person(s) seeking consular services will be admitted into the Embassy. Exceptions will be made only if those seeking consular services are under 18, or if they are disabled and require assistance. Local authorities will not permit anyone to wait outside the Embassy, so please do not bring anyone else with you.

Applicants who do not follow these instructions will experience considerable delays at the security check point which could result in the interview being cancelled.

28 March 2007
Our last "Talk with the Consul" Webchat was be held March 27 and the transcript is now available.

31 January 2008:
Effective February 1, 2008: Routine Service (Form DS-11) Non-Refundable:
Age 16 and older: The passport application fee is $75. The execution fee is $25. The total is $100.
Under Age 16: The passport application fee is $60. The execution fee is $25. The total is $85.

25 January 2008 :
The transcript of the webchat on January 24 is now available.

02 January 2008  Change in passports for children:  As of February 1, 2008, the two-parent consent requirement for all passport services will be extended to include all children under age 16. This requirement is currently in effect for all children under age 14. Either both parents must be present to provide signatures at the time of passport application, or in the event one parent cannot attend, they must send a notarized statement of consent and identification. Alternately, the applying parent may present a death certificate or sole custody order for the child. Please see the section Passport renewals: Instructions for children for more details.
