Report of Birth Appointments in London

You are required to register the report of birth in person.  To book an appointment, please follow this linkEach family member seeking a service related to passports or birth registration requires an appointment.

Important Notice:  Applicants who do not appear at the appointed time will experience considerable delays and/or the possibility of the appointment not being honored.


Processing Time

An application for a full-validity (ten years for adults; five years for children under age 16) passport will be sent to the United States for printing with a secure, photo-digitized image of the bearer. You should allow 15 working days for your application to be processed.

The passport(s) will be returned to you either by the Embassy's contracted courier, DX Secure, whose service can be pruchased from the DX representative in the lobby of American Citizen Services on the day of your appointment, or by Royal Mail.  If using Royal Mail you will be required to furnish a self-addressed, prepared Royal Mail Special Delivery Envelope with your application.  Inquiries regarding Special Delivery Mail should be directed to your local Post Office. 

Please note:  Applicants are not permitted to appear in person to pick up passports.

The Appointment

  • If you will be applying for a passport for you child, you should note that the parent(s)/guardian(s) must remain at the Embassy throughout the process as they will be required to take an oath or make an affirmation before signing the minor's passport application form.  Please be advised that the wait time for passport interviews may take two to three hours depending on the number of applicants that day and the complexity of each case.  On high volume days, wait times can extend beyong three hours.
