Scheduling an Appointment

Based on the information furnished you may be ineligible to receive a visa under U.S. visa law and will require an appointment with the Visa Coordination Officer. In order to assist us in making this decision, you are required to take the following steps depending on your circumstances.

Arrest Conviction Caution

Denied entry into or removed from the United States

Medical Ineligibility

Overstay

What happens next?

On receipt of your documents, the Nonimigrant Visa Unit will decide which type of appointment you require and notify you of their decision by email within five workdays. On receipt of that email you should call the Operator Assisted Information Service which will schedule the appointment for you and advise you further.

Please note:  Your application will take a minimum of 16 weeks to process.  You should not make final travel plans until a visa has been issued and you are in receipt of your passport.

Why am I being asked to email my documents to the Embassy for review?

The wait time for an appointment with the Visa Coordination Officer can, at times, extend to several months. Pre-screeing a prospective visa application is one way in which we can reduce this wait time.

What if I do not wish to follow this procedure?

I regret that there is no alternative to this process. Many places including libraries and interet cafes will have scanners. If that is not an option then perhaps a friend or relative may be able to assist you.

Where can I obtain the documents?

ACPO - Information on obtaining the police certificate is available from the Association of Chief Police Officer's webiste

Court records for the United States - Information on contact details for courts in the United States is available from http://www.uscourts.gov/links.html.

Turnaround report from U.S Customs and Border Protection, Form I-877 - You may be able to obtain a copy of the report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Please visit their website at www.cbp.gov for further information.

Family Members

Only those who may be ineligible to receive a visa under U.S. visa law are required to follow this process and send their documents for review by the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit. If your spouse and/or children under the age of 21 will be applying for visas to accompany you to the United States, and there is no possibility that they may be ineligible to receive a visa, they will be required to wait until a decision is made in your case as to the type of appointment required before scheduling an appointment.

Important Reminder

Please keep your documents in a safe place as you will be required to present the originals on the day of the visa interview.
