The Medical Examination
Visa applicants, regardless of age, require a medical examination prior to the issuance of a visa. The medical examination
consists of a chest X-ray and blood test, which includes testing for HIV infection (AIDS) and venereal disease.
The blood test and X-ray are generally not required of persons under the age of 15 on the date of the appointment.
Pregnant women may forgo the X-ray if they so wish. However, they will be required to have an X-ray in the United States after the
birth of the child.
Under U.S. visa law immigrant visa applicants are required to meet certain vaccination requirements. As a K visa is a nonimmigrant visa
the physician will not be required to verify that you have met the vaccination requirement or that it is medically inappropraite for you to receive the vaccination
in order for you to be issued a visa. You will, however, be required to meet the vaccination requirement at the time you apply for
an adjustment of status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services after marriage.
Note:
The medical examination is performed at one of two medical centers in London. The medical
examination cannot be performed by the applicant's own physician.
The medical examination must take place before
the visa interview. If you attend the Embassy without having attended the
medical examination, the interview will be cancelled and you will be required
to reschedule for a later date.
The medical results will be couriered to the
Embassy within approximately 5 workdays of the examination. If the
results have not been received by the time you attend the interview, provided
the medical examination has taken place, action on your application will
be suspended until such time that they are received.
