World-Wide Travel Alert from the Bureau of Consular Affairs 

The U.S. Department of State alerts U.S. citizens traveling and residing abroad to the enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counter-terrorism activity  in Pakistan.  Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations.  Read more.

Travel Alert for the United Kingdom and Gibraltar (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland

The Department of State has issued this Travel Alert to inform U.S. citizens traveling to or resident in the United Kingdom (UK) of the continuing high level of terrorist threat, including the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems, aviation and other travel infrastructure in the UK. U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.  This Travel Alert expires on April 30, 2011.   Read more.

March and Demonstration

There will be a Trades Union Congress (TUC) and Student March in central London on Saturday the 29th of January 2011 from approximately 1200 hours to 1500 hours.  An estimated 7,000-10,000 TUC members and students will form up on Mallet Street (outside the University College of London) and then march onwards to Millbank. Short traffic holds to facilitate the march to pass will occur along the route.  Bus Services will be diverted around the area. Read More

CRBA Appointments

The Department of State is currently redesigning the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA or Form FS-240).

Embassy London, Consulate Edinburgh and Consulate General Belfast will continue to accept CRBA appointments. However, printing of the Consular Report of Birth Abroad certificate will be delayed until the Department of State completes the redesign process.  Read More...

Changes to Fees for Consular Services

Fees for consular services will change worldwide on July 13,  2010. The changes in consular fees will cover actual operating expenses for the Department of State's network of 301 consular posts abroad, 23 domestic passport agencies, and other centers that provide consular services to both U.S and foreign citizens....read more.

Over the weekend of June 12-13, several street robberies were reported in the St. John's Wood area of London. Crime in the St. John's Wood area of London

This week, a teenage boy and a friend were robbed at knifepoint in the St. John's Wood neighborhood of London.  The assailants, young men aged 18-24, struck at 2:30 in the afternoon on a busy street.  While no one was injured in the robbery, it is an aberration in the normal criminal pattern for this neighborhood....read more.

New Law Makes Absentee Voting Easier for Overseas Americans

On October 28, 2009, Congress enacted the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act.  This legislation amends existing law regarding overseas voting in federal elections, and should make voting easier for overseas Americans.....read more.
