Warden Messages
08 July 2008 Voluntary Appointment of Civilian Voting Assistance Officers
To: Organizations in the United Kingdom Involving American Citizens
Dear Warden,
For many years, American embassies and consulates around the world have assisted U.S. citizens with registration and absentee balloting. With the support of the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, an effort is underway to involve major organizations with significant numbers of American citizens in the United Kingdom in an extended program to provide voting assistance at the organization level.
I am writing to request that your organization nominate a person to work with both the FVAP and the Consular Section of the Embassy to assist as many interested eligible voters as possible to register and have access to a ballot for the upcoming general election in November. The work would involve attendance at an informal workshop at the Embassy on August 6, 2008, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Forms will be distributed and guidance on providing assistance to American citizens on contacting election officials in the United States will be provided.
Please complete and return the nomination form by mail, fax or e-mail to this office before July 31, 2008. I would appreciate it very much if you would respond even if you are unable to attend.
I hope your organization will participate in this important effort.
Sincerely,
M. Andre Goodfriend
Chief, American Citizen Services
