International Slavery Museum
Scheduled to open August 23, 2007, the Museum
contains the Transatlantic Slave Gallery and a number of other exhibits
about the slave trade in the British Empire and the Americas. Countless
millions of African men and women were taken from their homes and
transported across the Atlantic with many arriving in British North
America. While it is impossible to distinguish between degrees of
harshness in the Americas, slavery in the United States is
distinguished from the rest of the Americas by the designation of slave
for anyone who had one drop of "black blood," and therefore a lack of a
class of free blacks. Museum opening information can be found on their
website http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/ism/
