U.S. Exchange Program Alumnus December 2011
Tony Mercer, Former Director, Identity Management, UKBA
Over the last 60 years, thousands of UK citizens have traveled to the United States on exchange programs sponsored by the American Embassy in London. Each month we highlight alumni of these programs.
December’s Alumnus of the Month is Tony Mercer, Former Director of Identity Management, at the UK Border Agency, who traveled to the U.S. in 1992 on an International Visitor Leadership Program examining “The Implementation of U.S. Immigration Policy.” During his distinguished career with UKBA, Tony continued to work closely with his American counterparts. In 2010 his contribution was recognized with the award of the U.S. Congressional Medal for Outstanding Public Service in support of the Department for Homeland Security. Watch Tony discuss how the IVLP experience affected him personally and professionally and the circumstances surrounding the award of his medal.
