New opportunity for British post-grads to study in U.S.
The US-UK Fulbright Commission, the world’s largest merit-based scholarship programme, and Elsevier, the leading provider of science and health information products and services, announced a new award for post-graduate British students to study in any interdisciplinary field requiring bibliometric analysis in the US. The first award will be granted in academic year 2013/14. Bibliometrics is the quantitative analysis of research output, used, for example, to uncover new research trends, emerging fields of science or collaborations between universities and industry.
The Bibliometrics Award, part of the Fulbright Awards Programme and sponsored by Elsevier, provides British post-grads who wish to take such interdisciplinary courses with a new opportunity to study in the US. The award will not only offer a scholarship to study at a top higher education institute in the US, it will also give the recipient access to the global Fulbright programme with its distinctive enrichment opportunities and scholar benefits package.
The Fulbright Awards Programme is looking not only for academic excellence but also:
- demonstrable ambassadorial skills with evidence of cultural sensitivity and a genuine desire to learn more about the United States and share with American citizens aspects of British culture,
- experience and interest in a range of extracurricular and community activities,
- leadership potential
As a Fulbright Scholar they will join the global alumni network and will return to the UK with enhanced skills, new contacts and fresh ideas.
Penny Egan, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission said, “I’m thrilled that we have forged this great partnership between two such respected organisations, both of which are dedicated to supporting excellence and scholarship.’
Nick Fowler, Managing Director Institutional Markets at Elsevier, said: “As research seeks to address the major challenges of our time, it increasingly develops across the boundaries of traditional disciplines. Elsevier is delighted to partner with the Fulbright Commission on this new award in which the recipient will use publication and citation data analysis to advance the study of research.”
