Pentagon Memorial
On the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon, Ambassador and Mrs. Robert H. Tuttle laid a wreath at a memorial in London honoring British victims. Accompanying them were State Department Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy James Glassman and his wife, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission Richard LeBaron.
67 Britons were among the people who died in the attacks in 2001.
President George W. Bush has proclaimed today as Patriot Day in the U.S. and has directed that the flag be flown at half-staff
Americans were also encouraged to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time, the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Staff at the U.S. Embassy observed a minute of silence at 1:46 p.m., the corresponding local time.
