Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice expressed sadness at the sudden passing of former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, calling him "a friend of the United States, a skilled diplomat, and a passionate defender of human freedom and dignity." Statement by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice The Death of Former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook I am saddened by the sudden passing of former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook. Mr. Cook was a friend of the United States, a skilled diplomat, and a passionate defender of human freedom and dignity. As Foreign Secretary, he played a key role in ending ethnic cleansing and building peace, stability and democracy in the Balkans. We mourn his passing.
