23 September 2009 Statement by National Security Council Spokesman Mike Hammer on U.S.-UK Relations
Office of National Security Council Spokesman Mike Hammer
Any stories that suggest trouble in the bilateral relationship between the United States and U.K. are totally absurd. As is evident by the tight and extensive work our countries carry out together to address comon challenges across the globe, including in Afghanistan, on non-proliferation, promoting peace and economic prosperity. The U.S.-U.K. special relationship is strong and doing well. We would add that President Obama and Prime Minister Brown enjoy a terrific relationship, they speak regularly on a range of the most difficult challenges facing our two nations and meet frequently. In fact, they last spoke by phone on September 10 to preview the UNGA and Pittsburgh summits and have already confered while here in New York during the Climate Change meeting. And, on Thursday are co-hosting with the Pakistanis the Friends of Democratic Pakistan event. Then, the leaders will also meet again in Pittsburgh at the G20.
