10 October 2006 Ambassador Mitchell B. Reiss in Northern Ireland
President Bush’s Special Envoy to the Northern Ireland peace process, Ambassador Mitchell B. Reiss, is visiting Northern Ireland (October 10-11). During his visit, the Ambassador will have separate meetings with Secretary of State Peter Hain, with business leaders, and also with senior policing representatives. Ambassador Reiss will then travel to St. Andrews in Scotland, where talks involving Northern Ireland’s political leaders are due to take place.
Speaking today, Ambassador Reiss said: “Northern Ireland’s political leaders will travel to St. Andrews benefiting from the fact that conditions for a lasting political resolution are within reach. I urge all elected representatives to exercise the necessary courage and leadership to bring about devolved government that the people of Northern Ireland deserve”.
