05 March 2008 A Message from the Undersecretary for Democracy and Global Affairs and the Special Envoy on Northern Ireland Dr. Paula J. Dobriansky to Dr. Ian Paisley
"On behalf of the United States, I would like to congratulate Dr. Ian Paisley, Sr. on his service to the people of Northern Ireland, and his historic role in bringing about a peaceful political settlement that will ensure a better future for Northern Ireland.
As President Bush's Special Envoy on Northern Ireland, I have been impressed by Dr. Paisley's commitment to working for the greater good of the people of Northern Ireland in cooperation with Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and the Northern Ireland Executive. It has been my pleasure to work with him. The United States continues to support the timely conclusion of the devolution process for Northern Ireland, and we look forward to continuing our important work on the U.S.-Northern Ireland Investment Conference in May.
Dr. Paisley's historic visit with Mr. McGuinness to the United States in December 2007, and his welcome of two U.S investment missions to Northern Ireland over the past several months, underscore his dedication to consolidating the peace in Northern Ireland by promoting economic growth and prosperity.
We wish Dr. Paisley and his family all the best and thank him for his efforts to ensure a more confident peaceful and prosperous Northern Ireland in the years to come".
