31 May 2006 Ambassador Tuttle hosts reception in support of the Integrated Education movement in Northern Ireland
On May 31, Ambassador Tuttle hosted a reception at his London residence to draw attention to, and show USG support for, the Integrated Education movement in Northern Ireland. Despite the last decade of peaceful progress in that province, over 95% of children there are still educated in segregated (Catholic and Protestant schools). The vital importance of integrating education has been highlighted by President Bush at the White House St. Patrick’s Day reception. The Ambassador spoke of this support to the gathering of prominent politicians, business, government representatives, media and educators. He introduced other prominent supports, Baroness Blood and Lord Dubs, as well as Gerrard Cowan, a young graduate of an integrated school.
