18 July 2005 Ambassador Robert H. Tuttle Signs Condolence Book in Remembrance of the July 7 London Bomb Victims
In his first official act on July 18, the newly arrived United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, Ambassador Robert Holmes Tuttle and his wife Maria laid a wreath at the memorial garden located at Victoria Embankment Gardens in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the terrorist bombings in London July 7.
Ambassador Tuttle’s message in the condolence book at the Gardens read, “Let the spirit and resilience of the people of London be an inspiration to the victims of terror everywhere.”
Commenting on the occasion, Ambassador Tuttle said, “Maria and I had hoped that our first official act in the UK would be a more joyous occasion, but the tragic events of July 7 reminded us all how quickly our lives and plans can be turned upside down. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims of the London bombings and their families, and to those who are still searching for their loved ones. My wife and I have only just arrived in this city, but we have been deeply moved and humbled by the courage of the British people and their determination to carry on following this tragedy.”
After visiting the Embankment, Ambassador Tuttle and Mrs. Tuttle visited King’s Cross station, the site of one of the terrorist attacks, and met with officers of the Transport Police and Metropolitan Police to express their admiration and gratitude for their tireless efforts in the aftermath of the attacks.
