11 September 2007 Ambassador and Mrs. Tuttle Lay Wreath for Victims of 9/11
(London) On the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon, Ambassador and Mrs. Robert H. Tuttle this morning laid a wreath at a memorial in London honoring British victims. The Ambassador is also meeting today with family members of the deceased. 67 Britons were among the people who died in the attacks.
"At home and abroad we continue to honor their memory not only in acts of remembrance on this day, but every day in the work we do, to defeat those who claimed 3,000 lives six years ago, and continue to wreak havoc around the world," said Ambassador Tuttle.
To hear all of Ambassador Tuttle's remarks, the following Podcast will be available after 1:30 p.m. today: http://london.usembassy.gov/rss/2007.html#9/11.
President George W. Bush has proclaimed today as Patriot Day in the U.S. and has directed that the flag be flown at half-staff. Americans are also encouraged to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time, the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Staff at the U.S. Embassy will observe a minute of silence at 1:46 p.m., the corresponding local time.
Last week President Bush also declared September 7-9 "National Days of Prayer and Remembrance." The days were observed with memorial services, the ringing of bells, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils.
