February 25, 2005 Presidential Message For St. David's Day 2005
The White House
Washington
February 25, 2005
I send greetings to the people of Wales as you celebrate St. David's Day. This occasion is an opportunity to recognize your many contributions to the international community and to honor your rich history and culture.
For more than two centuries, Wales and the United States have been linked by family, friendship, and common values. Welsh Americans have helped settle the American frontier, build our cities, and defend our liberty. Their dedication to faith and family has strengthened our communities and enriched our Nation's character. From the inspiring literature of Harriet Beecher Stowe to the sharp wit of Bob Hope and the creative architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, the names and accomplishments of Welsh Americans are familiar. These and millions of other Welsh Americans have made our country better and stronger.
Today, our two lands remain committed to shared ideals of liberty. We continued to stand together to advance peace and democracy around the world. On behalf of the American people, Laura and I wish all Welsh people, within Wales and throughout the world, a joyous St. David's Day.
